something new, something modern
well, it’s a new year and i’ve entered a new phase of life, so naturally, i’m launching a new website. these are truely exciting times we live in.
i feel the need to introduce myself a little, or at least catch up my faithful readers on whats been goin on in my life. in december i finished up my undergrad degree in computer science engineering at the university of michigan. although hopes of finding a job are slowing waning, i am still vigilant in my search. ya know, everyone says the computer industry is hot, and that computer science degrees are valuable, … so why dont companies want to hire me?? alright, thats a whole entry to itself. back to my introduction. i enjoyed an extended winter break this year and returned to campus about a week ago. i plan on sticking around ann arbor this semester to live out the “perfect college life” as i call it - all of the social benefits of college without the academic stresses.
critics have said to me, “phil, you’re gonna get bored. you should get a job or something - you know, a fun one.” … fun job? clearly these critics are so jealous of my situation that they have gone completely insane. what is a fun job?? let’s analyze this in an organized fashion:
activities that i consider to be fun:
sleeping, driving nice cars, watching tv, eating, playing sports, watching movies, reading wired magazine, hanging out with friends, playing guitar, singing, dancing, traveling, playing video games
anything that takes time away from a fun activity is not fun. therefore, unless someone’s going to pay me to do any of the above things (not gonna happen), there is no such thing as a fun job (to me).
now to switch to a totally different topic, happy chinese new year! to chinese and taiwanese and singaporian natives, this is a big holiday - perhaps the biggest of the year. however to ABC’s (american born chinese [people]) like myself the big celebration has dwindled down into a tradition where i say “gong shi fah tzai” to my relatives and then they smile and give me a red envelope with money in it. kinda sad how holidays and traditions lose their meaning over the years. but not as sad as what happened with christmas. what was once a celebration and commemoration of Jesus Christ’s birth has become a holiday that causes people to stress and go crazy over buying presents and drink eggnog and dress up as santa clause, whoever that is.
anywho, welcome to my new log.
